A Sacramento family is pleading for help and putting up a $500 reward after their 7-month-old French bulldog, Kilo, was snatched from outside their North Sacramento home. Surveillance video shows a black SUV pulling up along Frienza Avenue around 3 p.m. Saturday. A person in the passenger seat reaches out, scoops the puppy into the vehicle, then the SUV pulls away. Kilo’s owner, Jannelle Jay, says she has barely slept since and believes her dog was targeted because French bulldogs are considered "worth a lot of money."
Surveillance Shows The Snatch
Home security footage captures Kilo trotting toward the SUV, then being lifted into the passenger side, according to KCRA. Jay has filed a police report, blasted Kilo’s photos across neighborhood social media pages and is offering the $500 reward in hopes the dog-napper, or someone who knows them, will give the pup back. "Just bring my dog back. I miss him a lot," Jay told KCRA.
Why French Bulldogs Are Targeted
French bulldogs have been repeatedly targeted in the Sacramento region and beyond because of their resale value. Earlier local reporting notes that puppies can sell for thousands of dollars, which turns the breed into a tempting target for thieves, per CBS Sacramento. That coverage reported that Frenchie puppies can range from $4,000 to $6,000 or more. Owners say the trend is a pointed reminder to microchip pets, keep a close eye on them outdoors and call police right away if an animal goes missing.
How To Help
Anyone who knows where Kilo might be is urged to contact the Sacramento Police Department or submit a tip online, according to the City of Sacramento police. The department’s file-a-report page lists the non-emergency phone line and step-by-step instructions for reporting property crimes. Tips can also be shared with Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-HELP. The Jay family says they are combing through local groups and community posts and are holding out hope that Kilo comes home unharmed.
