San Diego is starting today, under mostly clear skies after a quick overnight splash of light showers, with temperatures sitting near 64°F at Lindbergh Field. Those lingering showers will fade through the morning, giving way to a mix of sun and clouds and afternoon highs in the upper 60s to near 70°F, along with a breezy southwest wind at times. If you are heading out early, a light jacket is still your friend, since the coolest hours come before the sun chews through the last of the cloud cover.
Showers Fizzle From Northwest To Southeast
Any remaining shower activity will wind down from northwest to southeast through late morning, and most neighborhoods will only see light rainfall totals of less than a tenth of an inch. According to the National Weather Service in San Diego, the best chance of a brief passing shower is before 11 AM, after which skies turn mostly sunny and stay dry. Low temperatures this morning hover near 61°F, and coastal and valley areas should notice the bulk of the clearing by around midday.
Afternoon Breeze And Wind Advisory In The Higher Terrain
Along the coast and in the valleys, southwest winds will generally run about 5–10 mph, with occasional gusts up to around 20 mph in the afternoon, while the higher terrain and desert slopes turn noticeably gustier. A Wind Advisory is posted for mountain and desert areas through 11 PM Thursday, where gusts of 35–45 mph, with a few stronger bursts in spots, are on the table. Boaters and anyone planning to head into the hills should be ready for choppy, gusty conditions and make sure loose outdoor gear is tied down.
Warmup On The Way Later This Week
High pressure combined with offshore flow will help crank up the warmth on Friday and Saturday. Highs will climb into the mid-70s on Friday, then into the upper-70s at the coast and 80s inland over the weekend. Northeast winds along and just below the coastal slopes could gust 30–40 mph on Friday as the warmup kicks in. Early next week, temperatures ease back a bit with a modest cooling trend, lighter winds, and the usual up-and-down feel of spring.
What It Means For Your Commute
For the morning drive, a few slick spots are possible where pockets of drizzle hang on, but no widespread flooding or hazardous marine conditions are expected through Thursday morning. It is still smart to build in a little extra time for early errands and steer clear of any standing water, just in case a shower left a surprise puddle. Crews and forecasters will share updates if the setup changes.
