Jason Daniloski and Nicole Evanshaw, the husband and wife team behind Silver Queen Cafe, are turning the corner storefront at 5500 Harford Road into Market at Hamilton, a deli and specialty market aimed squarely at the neighborhood crowd. They plan to take possession of the space on May 1 and are targeting a mid-June or early summer opening. The couple says the shop will pair a sandwich counter with curated groceries and grab-and-go charcuterie built for Hamilton neighbors.
What Market at Hamilton will sell
Inside 5500 Harford Road, Market at Hamilton is set to serve sandwiches, including a muffaletta and an Italian sub, the owners are calling “the Guido,” and stock items geared toward charcuterie boards. That means artisan cheeses, fresh-baked bread, tinned fish, olive oil, vinegar, pickled vegetables, and jam, as reported by WBAL NewsRadio. Evanshaw told WBAL the team is also considering going charcuterie, grab-and-go items, and ice cream. The owners say the focus will be on quick lunches and specialty pantry goods rather than a full sit-down restaurant.
How the space opened up
The storefront was most recently home to Emma’s Tea Spot, which relocated a few blocks down Harford Road earlier this year. The tea shop is moving into a larger spot at 4337 Harford Road, freeing up the corner property for a new tenant. That turnover is one of several small business shifts on Harford Road as owners rethink what local customers want from neighborhood retail.
Where this fits in the city’s food scene
Baltimore Magazine recently flagged Market at Hamilton alongside a slate of market-style openings and repurposed storefronts headed for the city this spring, putting the Daniloskis’ plan in a broader trend of specialty grocers and deli counters. Baltimore Magazine notes similar projects that aim to pair prepared sandwiches with curated pantry items. For Hamilton, the new market could add daytime foot traffic and give neighbors a convenient stop for lunch and charcuterie supplies.
When to expect it
Daniloski and Evanshaw own Silver Queen Cafe and plan to keep the restaurant running while they launch the market; the cafe’s contact information lists the couple as operators, and Silver Queen Cafe remains active in the neighborhood. The owners expect to take possession of the 5500 Harford Road property on May 1 and hope to open in mid-June, subject to final buildout and any permitting, as reported by WBAL NewsRadio. We will share hours and a firm opening date once the team finalizes them.
