Human skeletal remains were discovered Friday morning along a stretch of railroad on Houston’s southwest side, triggering a response from the Houston Police Department’s homicide division and turning a quiet industrial corridor into an active crime scene. Union Pacific crews reported finding the remains near the roadway beside the tracks, and investigators moved in to document and secure the area. Officials have kept a tight lid on specifics while detectives dig into the case.
Where the Remains Were Found
According to ABC13 Houston, Union Pacific workers came across the skeletal remains in a strip of land between the railroad and the roadway at 14900 South Main Street. The Houston Police Department's homicide unit was called out around 9 a.m., and the outlet reported that authorities have not yet released the person’s identity or a cause of death.
Railway Incidents in the Region
Deaths and body discoveries linked to rail lines have pulled in law enforcement across the Houston region in recent months. In one March 26 incident, a Union Pacific freight train struck and killed a pedestrian near the Washington Corridor, as reported by FOX 26 Houston. Earlier in the year, the Houston Chronicle detailed another fatal train strike in Humble in January.
What Investigators Say
So far, HPD has said little beyond confirming that there is no additional information to share while detectives work to identify the remains and determine how the person died. As ABC13 Houston notes, the investigation is still active and officials have not announced any suspects.
