Cosmic Roots Nature School, a small outdoor-focused microschool just outside Georgetown, will close at the end of the 2025–26 school year and will not enroll students for 2026–27, school leaders announced this week. The campus, which serves pre-K through middle school grades, plans to finish instruction in May while staff work with families on next steps.
School cites financial strain
In a message on its website, Cosmic Roots said the “current business model is not sustainable long-term” and pledged to “finish this 25-26 school year with intentional care, connection, and enrichment for our students.” The post encouraged families to stay tuned to the school’s community channels for ongoing updates and support as the program winds down.
Enrollment, tuition and timing
According to Community Impact, the program enrolled about 55 students and charged tuition ranging from $785 to $950 per month. The outlet reported that the microschool had at one point planned to expand into ninth grade before leaders ultimately chose to close. Community Impact also notes that the campus is set to close in May at the end of the 2025–26 academic year.
Where families can turn
Sage Field, a new outdoor-centered microschool in Round Rock, is advertising a May 26–Aug. 13 summer session and a school-year program beginning in mid-August, and is accepting enrollments, per its website. Sage Field's staff roster includes educators such as Paige Wood and Sabrina Grace Obnamia, who also appear on Cosmic Roots' team page. For some families, that overlap could offer a measure of continuity in a similar outdoor-focused setting.
Funding and alternatives
Families weighing next steps may be able to access state support through Texas' Education Freedom Accounts, which can be applied toward private-school tuition and other approved education expenses. The official TEFA portal says the parent application window for the 2026–27 program ran Feb. 4–March 31, 2026, with award notifications scheduled for April; see the program site for details: Texas Education Freedom Accounts.
Cosmic Roots has said it will continue to support current students through the wind-down period and encouraged parents to reach out directly to school leaders with questions. Families interested in programs that mirror Cosmic Roots' outdoor approach can review Sage Field's enrollment information or contact that school’s office for the latest details.
