The Dodge Durango left the roadway, ran over outdoor tables and a tree, and slammed into a violin shop while also damaging a nearby bakery. Three passengers stayed behind at the scene, but the driver took off, and no injuries were reported.
According to WSB Radio, City Manager Patrick Bryant said the Durango "left the roadway, ran over a tree, launched a light pole into the marquee of our historic theater." Investigators recovered several firearms, marijuana, and seven cell phones from the SUV and found evidence of alcohol consumption, the station reported. No arrests had been made as police continued to search for the missing driver.
The crash hit a stretch of North Avondale Road that has already been a sore spot for merchants thanks to a lengthy street-improvement project.
