A stolen car spotted right outside the Pre-K 4 SA West Education Center on Old Highway 90 West turned a quiet Wednesday morning into a brief police chase and campus lockdown, San Antonio police said. Officers reported that three juveniles bailed out of the vehicle after a short pursuit that ended on Marbach Road. Two were quickly taken into custody, one at the scene and another after a short foot chase, while a third remained on the run. The school went into a brief lockdown that officials lifted around 12:30 p.m., and authorities reported no injuries. Investigators say the case remains active.
How Police Say the Short Chase Went Down
According to SAPD, officers flagged the vehicle while it was near the Pre-K 4 SA West Education Center, then followed it as it left the campus area. The pursuit wrapped up along Marbach Road, where Department of Public Safety troopers assisted local officers. Police say they saw three juveniles get out of the car. One was detained immediately and a second was caught after a short foot pursuit. Two suspects are now in custody and one is still at large, as reported by KENS 5.
Where the Lockdown Happened
The school involved is Pre-K 4 SA’s West Education Center, which the program lists at 1235 Historic Old Hwy 90 W on the Far West Side. Pre-K 4 SA runs several neighborhood education centers around the city that serve thousands of three- and four-year-olds. Officials said the temporary lockdown followed standard school safety procedures while officers worked the scene and cleared the immediate area.
West Side Thefts Add to the Backdrop
The West Side has been no stranger to stolen-vehicle cases in recent months, with officers recovering multiple vehicles and sometimes finding weapons or other contraband inside. In February, KSAT reported that SAPD arrested two people after officers found a rifle and marijuana in a recovered stolen vehicle on the West Side, underscoring the broader auto-theft problem police are dealing with. Neighborhood groups and some local officials have been pushing for more patrols and additional automated license-plate-reader coverage in known hotspot areas.
Ongoing Investigation and How to Share Tips
SAPD says detectives are still working the case and has not released the juveniles’ names or any potential charges. Department of Public Safety troopers assisted officers at the scene, according to KENS 5. Anyone with information is asked to call the San Antonio Police Department non-emergency line at 210-207-7273 or contact Crime Stoppers at 210-224-STOP (7867) to provide anonymous tips. City officials list the same non-emergency number on the city site.
