Pittsburgh gets a classic weather two-for-one to start the week, with a crisp, clear Monday before rain and rumbles move back in by midweek. Early Monday temperatures dipped to about 43°F at Allegheny County Airport, but bright sunshine will send afternoon highs into the mid 70s, giving the region a warm, dry stretch that is tailor-made for outdoor plans. Skies stay mostly sunny through the day with light southeast breezes, then clouds start to build in overnight.
Afternoon Breeze, Gustier Tonight
Southeast winds will run around 5–12 mph this afternoon, with a few gusts near 20 mph possible. Tonight, clouds take over, and temperatures slide to a low near 52°F. A chance of rain showers moves in after about 4 a.m., and the wind picks up a bit, increasing to around 12 mph with gusts up to roughly 22 mph.
Midweek Showers And Thunderstorms
A warm front will swing through on Tuesday morning, bringing rain to start the day, and showers and thunderstorms are likely through the afternoon with highs near 72°F and gusty southerly winds. Wednesday looks like the wetter of the two days, with more showers and thunderstorms and highs in the upper 60s. According to the National Weather Service, new rainfall on Wednesday alone could total between one-half and three-quarters of an inch, and some spots may collect around an inch over the two days.
Commute, Yard And Garden Notes
Drivers should plan a little extra time for the Tuesday and Wednesday commutes, since wet roads and lower clouds are likely to slow traffic and cut visibility in places. Once this system clears out, temperatures trend cooler, and forecasters are flagging a risk of frost on higher terrain and north of the city from Friday into the weekend, so it is a good idea to cover any tender plants if needed.
