What started as routine roadside survey work on State Route 125 turned deadly Tuesday evening in Union Township, Clermont County, when a 36-year-old man was struck and killed and the busy corridor was shut down for hours.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene and closed the roadway while investigators documented the crash site and the coroner responded.

According to WKRC, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said the collision occurred around 6:22 p.m. when a 19-year-old Cincinnati man driving a 2024 Tesla Model Y eastbound in a two-way left-turn lane hit the survey worker. WKRC identified the victim as 36-year-old Kevin Fuller of Lafayette, Arkansas. Fuller was pronounced dead at the scene, and the Tesla driver was taken to UC Medical Center with what troopers described as minor injuries. The crash remains under investigation.

WLWT reported that troopers blocked both directions of SR-125 near Bennett Road and Randolph Lane while investigators worked the scene and the coroner's office responded. On-scene video and photos published by local outlets showed a dark-colored Tesla sitting in the wrong direction on the roadway with significant front-end and windshield damage. The Ohio State Highway Patrol's Batavia Post is handling the investigation, WLWT said.

Where this happened

State Route 125 has seen more than its share of serious crashes in recent years, and local outlets have tracked several of them. Last September, Hoodline covered a multi-victim crash that shut OH-125 for hours in nearby Tate Township, underscoring ongoing safety concerns along the corridor.

Local crash statistics

Ohio State Highway Patrol data show Clermont County recorded 15 fatal crashes in 2024, down from 20 in 2023. That dip on the spreadsheet does little to blunt the impact of individual tragedies like Tuesday night's collision, and troopers are still working to pin down contributing factors in this latest case.

The crash remains under investigation and, as of reporting, no charges had been announced. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Ohio State Highway Patrol's Batavia Post, according to WKRC.
