Two people have been charged in the fatal shooting that left 19-year-old Tyrell Robinson dead outside a northeast Austin apartment complex, according to police. Investigators say the April 8 shooting unfolded outside the Nova North Apartments near Dessau Road and Parmer Lane, where officers detained a 19-year-old and a 17-year-old at the scene. Three juveniles may also face charges, and authorities say a reward could be available for information leading to an arrest, asking the public to share tips with detectives.
APD Names Suspects and Files Charges
As reported by KVUE, the Austin Police Department identified the victim as 19-year-old Tyrell Robinson and said 19-year-old Chance Young and 17-year-old Drevon Slaughter face charges in the case. KVUE also reported that three juveniles have charges pending and that authorities are offering up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
Scene and Investigation
Officers responded to 12435 Dessau Rd and found a man with obvious trauma, and life-saving measures were not successful, local outlets report. The department described the shooting as an isolated incident while detectives canvassed the complex and interviewed witnesses, according to KXAN. Other serious incidents in recent years along the Dessau corridor were noted as underscoring local safety concerns on the busy stretch.
Legal Status
Officials say charges have been filed but have not yet released full charging documents, and the next steps will show up in court records and any actions from the Travis County District Attorney. Because one defendant is a juvenile, prosecutors will decide whether to handle that case in juvenile or adult court as the record develops.
