Dense fog is socking in Knoxville and much of East Tennessee this morning, Sunday, April 26, 2026, cutting visibility down to roughly a quarter to a half mile in river valleys and other low-lying spots. The National Weather Service has issued a Dense Fog Advisory for portions of the region that remains in effect through 10:00 AM EDT Sunday, April 26, 2026. Drivers should be ready for slower highway speeds and patchy delays on secondary roads.
Today
The fog is expected to burn off by mid- to late morning, with mostly sunny skies and a warm afternoon on tap. Highs should reach near 80°F with light northeast winds. Tonight will be partly cloudy with a low around 55°F.
Looking ahead, showers and thunderstorms become likely after about 2:00 AM EDT on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, with southwest winds gusting as high as 25 mph. Forecasters currently assess only a low severe threat. These details are according to NWS Morristown.
Commute And Safety Tips
If you're driving this morning, slow down, use low-beam headlights, and leave extra stopping distance, as dense fog can hide stopped vehicles and highway workers. School buses and morning commuters should plan for slower travel through at least 10:00 AM EDT and consider delaying nonessential early trips. Keep a charged phone and a basic emergency kit in the car, and build in extra time for those usual city-to-suburb runs.

The Dense Fog Advisory is expected to expire at 10:00 AM EDT Sunday, April 26, 2026, with conditions improving through the late morning and into a warm afternoon. We will update if any watches or warnings change for the Monday night into Tuesday system.
