Pizza Studio Tamaki, the cult-favorite Tokyo pizzeria from chef Tsubasa Tamaki, is bringing its Tokyo-Neapolitan pies to Manhattan, with its first U.S. outpost opening in the East Village on Tuesday, May 5. The chef-driven spot will land on St. Marks Place this spring, giving New Yorkers a crack at the pies that helped turn Tamaki into a global name.
According to Eater New York, the 65-seat restaurant will take over the space at 123 St. Marks Place. It is slated to operate Tuesday through Thursday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., giving the late-night slice crowd a more polished option on the block.
Chef And Craft
Tsubasa Tamaki has built a following for his wood-fired, Tokyo-Neapolitan style, and was ranked No. 10 in the Pizza category in the 2025 Best Pizza Awards, per The Best Pizza Awards. His technique blends Japanese and American flours, relies on a roughly 30-hour fermentation, and uses a custom oven that he sometimes seasons with Japanese cedar shavings, according to his profile. The New York move is part of an international run that already includes locations in Bangkok and Singapore.
Menu And Drinks
The New York menu will feature PST signatures such as the Tamaki, a margherita-style pie, the Bismarck with sausage and egg, a five-formaggi, and a Bianca. Small plates will include charred broccolini, risotto arancini, and the restaurant's signature meatballs, per Eater New York. Drinks will include a compact wine and cocktail program, plus taps pouring beers from Moody Tongue Brewing Company, a carryover from the Chicago-based group that previously operated at the address, according to Moody Tongue.
Pizza Studio Tamaki previewed the space with a two-day pop-up in February, taking over the former Moody Tongue Pizza operation before returning with a permanent menu and a full dining room, per The Infatuation. The East Village setup gives Tamaki a compact, chef-forward stage where pies are fired to order.
Reservations are live via SevenRooms on the restaurant's site, and PST says it will hold space for walk-ins on a first-come basis, per Pizza Studio Tamaki's website. When service begins May 5, the East Village will be one of the first American neighborhoods to get Tamaki's long-fermented dough and minimalist toppings straight from the source.
