A Sunday ride on a Rancho Cucamonga trail ended with a 15-year-old unconscious and his electric motorcycle gone, after deputies say a local man shoved the teen off the bike, then took off with his ride, phone, and keys.
According to NBC Los Angeles, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department says the confrontation happened Sunday afternoon on a trail near Sapphire Street and Garden Court. Deputies identified the suspect as 31-year-old Nicholas Sawyer and said he pushed the teen off the electric motorcycle, knocking him out, before taking the motorcycle, the teen's iPhone, and his keys.
Where the Arrest Took Place
Investigators used the victim's iPhone to track Sawyer to the area of Carnelian Street and Baseline Road, where deputies detained him. He was booked into the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department. Officials have not publicly released specific charges. The sheriff's account notes the teen was taken to a hospital for treatment after the assault.
E-Bike Incidents and Enforcement
High-powered electric motorcycles and dirt-bike style e-bikes have been drawing extra scrutiny across the Inland Empire as riders bring them onto streets, trails, and pedestrian paths, raising ongoing safety concerns. Hoodline previously covered a separate e-bike chase through a Rancho Cucamonga mall last year, a spectacle that highlighted just how tricky it can be to fit these machines into everyday public spaces.
How to Report Tips
Anyone with information about Sunday's incident is urged to contact the Rancho Cucamonga Sheriff's Station at (909) 477-2800, according to NBC Los Angeles. Investigators are especially interested in video footage or eyewitness accounts that could help clarify what happened on the trail.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department says the case remains under investigation and that more details may be released as detectives continue their work. Authorities are asking residents to send any tips directly to the Rancho Cucamonga station or through the department's official channels.
