A 15-year-old caused a stir this past Saturday when he led police on a chase through Victoria Gardens Mall in Rancho Cucamonga after being prompted by mall security. The incident sparked concerns about public safety and the use of electric bikes in pedestrian areas.
San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies reported the teen rode his electric dirt bike at high speeds, executed dangerous stunts, and came close to hitting multiple pedestrians and vehicles, the chase ended with a swift apprehension of the juvenile north of the mall despite him sporting a helmet and facemask which concealed his identity initially; the teen, a resident of Fontana, was released into parental custody and the bike impounded, as detailed by a KTLA report and further confirmed by the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department.
Authorities are reminding the public about the dangers and legal consequences of operating electric vehicles irresponsibly following this event. Illegal or off-highway vehicles are strictly forbidden on public roadways, pedestrian zones, as well as shared-use paths and trails, as officials have highlighted in the aftermath of the pursuit.
