What was supposed to be a late night out in Upper Kirby turned violent Wednesday when gunfire erupted outside Confessions, a nightclub on Kirby Drive, leaving two men in critical condition. Houston police say the shooting grew out of what they described as a robbery attempt that escalated into a fight and then shots fired around 11:30 p.m. The suspected shooter took off and had not been found as of early Thursday. Both victims, believed to be in their 20s, were rushed to nearby hospitals with life-threatening injuries.
According to KHOU, one man was shot multiple times in the torso inside the club. The second man was discovered in a nearby parking garage with gunshot wounds to his arms and legs after trying to get away. Investigators told KHOU they still do not know whether either victim was involved in the initial robbery attempt. They said the gunman ran off after the fight, and officers are checking local hospitals to see if the shooter might have sought treatment after reportedly being beaten at the scene.
What Investigators Are Zeroing In On
"Investigators will get to the bottom of it," Lt. Willkens told KHOU, as officers spread out across the area to collect evidence and talk to potential witnesses. Confessions, which opened in Upper Kirby in recent months as a restaurant-and-lounge, draws a late night crowd along Kirby Drive, according to local coverage from Community Impact. That regular bustle now comes with a new layer of unease as detectives work to piece together how a reported robbery attempt turned into chaos.
How The Public Can Help
Police are urging anyone who was in or near the club, or who has cellphone video or security footage from around the time of the shooting, to contact the Houston Police Department. The department’s contact page lists the non-emergency number and options for submitting information. As always, authorities say to call 911 for emergencies.
