A ride on a southbound No. 4 train in lower Manhattan turned violent on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, when a man was stabbed in the stomach during what authorities described as an attempted robbery. The victim, believed to be in his 30s, was taken to Bellevue Hospital with injuries described by emergency responders as non-life-threatening. Witnesses said the masked attacker bolted from the train as it pulled into the Wall Street station, and police temporarily closed the stop while they searched the area.
According to the New York Post, EMS transported the man to Bellevue Hospital and officers again described his injuries as non-life-threatening. The outlet reports that the stabbing occurred aboard the southbound No. 4 in downtown Manhattan and that the masked suspect ran off when the train reached the Wall Street stop while police scoured the station.
Stabbing Follows Earlier Machete Attack
The assault comes just days after a machete attack at Grand Central that left three people injured and ended when officers shot the suspect, sharpening concerns about safety on the city's rail system, as reported by AP. That earlier incident triggered service disruptions and renewed scrutiny of transit security across the system.

Police have not announced any arrests in the Wall Street stabbing, and investigators are reviewing train surveillance footage and witness accounts, the New York Post reports. Anyone with information is asked to contact the NYPD or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
