Wake County deputies are trying to track down a driver who bolted from a traffic stop along Poole Road on Sunday morning, sparked a short chase, crashed into another vehicle, then ditched the scene in a second stolen car before running off on foot, according to investigators. No serious injuries were reported, and the stolen vehicle was later found and recovered as deputies continued working leads.
What deputies say happened
The Wake County Sheriff's Office says it started around 10:30 a.m., when a deputy spotted a car speeding on Poole Road near Barwell Road and tried to pull it over. Deputies chased the driver for about a mile along Poole Road to Misty River Drive, where the vehicle slammed into a car that was not part of the pursuit. Investigators say the suspect then jumped into a second uninvolved vehicle, took off again, and eventually abandoned that car and escaped on foot, according to CBS17.
Suspect description and search
Officials describe the suspect as a Black man about 5 feet 7 inches tall and roughly 260 pounds, with brown eyes and dreadlocks or braided hair. He was last seen in a white shirt, black pants, black socks and no shoes. Charges are pending, and deputies say they are actively searching the area and asking anyone with information to call 911, per ABC11.
Poole Road safety concerns
Poole Road has seen a run of high-profile violent and traffic incidents lately, putting the corridor under a local microscope. A recent report detailed an April smoke-shop brawl along the same stretch that left a woman pistol-whipped and grazed by a bullet. The pattern of crashes and close calls has residents and officials watching more closely as deputies chase down tips and video from nearby cameras.
Deputies say the recovered vehicle has been impounded while investigators sort through surveillance footage and follow up on leads. Anyone with information or dashcam video from Poole Road, Misty River Drive or surrounding intersections is urged to contact emergency services or share tips with local law enforcement, CBS17 reports.
