
Thick smoke rolled through a Cuyahoga Falls neighborhood Wednesday morning after a structure fire erupted in the 800 block of Barnes Avenue, drawing a heavy emergency response and sending one person to the hospital.
Neighbors reported a rush of fire engines and ambulances into the area as crews moved in on the blaze, which broke out just a short walk from Preston Elementary. Smoke drifted through nearby yards and across residential streets while firefighters worked to knock down the flames and keep the incident contained.
At about 9:37 a.m., the Cuyahoga Falls Fire Department responded to the reported structure fire on Barnes Avenue. Fire departments from Akron, Tallmadge, Munroe Falls, and Stow provided mutual aid as crews battled the flames, according to a city news release from the City of Cuyahoga Falls. Officials established a safety perimeter around the scene while firefighters carried out overhaul and mop-up work. The city said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
Preston Elementary notified families that while campus operations were not affected, anyone traveling in the area should use extra caution due to the nearby emergency response, as reported by WKYC. School officials also urged parents to steer clear of the immediate area while first responders remained on scene.
One person taken to hospital; cause under investigation
One patient was transported by the Cuyahoga Falls Fire Department to a local hospital, the city said in its release from the City of Cuyahoga Falls. Officials did not immediately provide details on the person’s condition.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and authorities have asked anyone with information to contact investigators.

Drivers may run into traffic slowdowns near Barnes Avenue as emergency crews wrap up operations and clear equipment from the street, according to local coverage by WKYC. Residents in the neighborhood were asked to give firefighters and other first responders plenty of space to work.
