A 65-year-old man was shoved to the ground and kicked on a Bath Beach sidewalk on May 1, and police say they are still looking for the two people behind the attack.
The assault happened near Cropsey Avenue and Bay 32nd Street, where the pair allegedly put their hands into the man’s pockets, pushed him to the sidewalk and kicked him multiple times before taking off on foot. The suspects did not get away with any of the victim’s property. The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was reported in stable condition.
What police say
Authorities confirmed the account and said no belongings were stolen, according to News12. The suspects ran off, and investigators have not announced any arrests. Officers are asking anyone who saw the attack or has video from the area to get in touch.
Where officers are working
The case is being handled by the NYPD’s 62nd Precinct, which covers Bath Beach and Bensonhurst, according to the precinct’s official page. Residents with footage, tips or neighborhood intel can reach the 62nd Precinct at (718) 236-2611 while detectives continue to canvass the blocks around Cropsey Avenue.
Neighborhood pattern
The attack lands on top of a series of recent street robberies and assaults in southern Brooklyn this spring. Earlier this year, a March 9 pistol-whipped attempted robbery in Bath Beach rattled neighbors and put extra attention on stickups in the area. Local coverage and police alerts note that detectives are also watching for quick getaways on scooters and e-bikes, which can make chasing suspects that much tougher for patrol officers.
How to help
Anyone with information is asked to contact the NYPD Crime Stoppers tip line at 800-577-TIPS, submit an internet tip or use the Crime Stoppers app, according to the NYPD’s program page. Tips can be anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $3,500 if they lead to an arrest and indictment.
No arrests had been announced as of the latest update, and detectives are still working the case, News12 reports. Neighbors are being urged to comb through doorbell and security-camera footage and call investigators if they spot anything that could help close in on the suspects.
