Anthony Parrish, 56, of Middletown, was convicted Thursday in Orange County Court of charges stemming from a June 2024 shooting in the Town of Crawford, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office announced. The verdict included second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, second- and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third- and fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and two counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Judge Craig Stephen Brown presided over the trial. Parrish was returned to the Orange County Jail without bail after the verdict, and sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 10, 2026, according to the DA’s announcement.
Prosecutors’ account of the evidence
The DA’s office said the victim was shot twice in the head inside a Crawford home on June 6, 2024. The victim then left the home and reached a main road, where a passerby called 911. The victim survived and was still recovering, Mid-Hudson News reported.
Prosecutors said investigators connected Parrish to the shooting through information from the victim and footage recorded by a Crawford police sergeant during an unrelated visit to the property the previous day. The footage showed Parrish on a motorbike, and its license plate led police to identify him, according to the DA’s office. A Middletown police officer later detained Parrish at a bus stop after police issued a lookout.
Statewide violent-crime context
According to Syracuse.com, citing New York Division of Criminal Justice Services data, violent crime increased in 22 New York counties in 2024. That statewide figure does not by itself show whether Orange County’s violent-crime level was higher or lower than that of other counties.
The DA’s office said officers found a duffel bag containing a loaded gun and narcotics when Parrish was detained. Prosecutors said the firearm was used in the shooting and that Parrish’s DNA was found on the gun and nearby drug packaging; Daily Voice also reported those claims. Parrish was initially charged with first-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon after his June 6, 2024, arrest, according to the Shawangunk Journal.
