Webster night owls may soon have a new place to linger over coffee and a slice of Bayou Goo. House of Pies, the late-night Houston institution known for its pies and all-day breakfast, is planning to open a Webster location, with state permit filings pointing to a Bay Area Boulevard storefront that would bring one of the city's most recognizable diner brands farther into the suburbs. The paperwork signals a sizable tenant build-out and a construction timetable that could put the new restaurant in place by mid-October.
A permit filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation on May 12 lists a House of Pies at 160 W. Bay Area Blvd, estimates a $350,000 tenant build-out for a space just under 4,000 square feet, and schedules construction to begin next week and wrap around mid-October, according to the Houston Chronicle. The Chronicle notes the company has not formally announced the Webster expansion and that the paper has reached out to the restaurant for comment. The project timeline should be treated as a build schedule rather than an official opening date.
Longtime Houston favorite heading east
House of Pies currently lists six Texas locations on its official locations page, and a Webster store would push the chain's Greater Houston footprint to seven, per House of Pies. The brand traces its roots to a 1965 concept by IHOP founder Al Lapin Jr., according to Houston Historic Retail, and Houston has become the last stronghold of the once-national chain. That blend of nostalgia and late-night demand is what has made House of Pies a durable local draw.
Why Webster
The 160 W. Bay Area Blvd address sits inside Bay Area Square, a retail cluster on Bay Area Boulevard that lists tenants from quick services to medical and fitness providers. Leasing materials for the 100–160 W. Bay Area Blvd block advertise available 1,110–5,350-square-foot storefronts and promote strong traffic counts for the corridor, according to the City of Webster. That visibility and tenant mix make Webster a logical place for a diner-style bakery that leans on both daytime shoppers and late-night visitors.
Permits do not confirm an opening, but they do represent a real estate commitment that usually precedes hiring and a public announcement. The Houston Chronicle reported it has reached out to House of Pies and will update when the company responds, which will provide the clearest opening timeline. In the meantime, neighbors and job seekers should watch for posted permits and hiring notices as the build-out proceeds.
For now, Webster residents with a soft spot for pie can still rely on the chain's existing Houston area locations for slices and full meals. We will update when House of Pies makes a formal announcement or posts a hiring page tied to the Webster address.
