Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office detectives tracked down 29-year-old Kyla Ferguson in early May, finding her in an apartment in the Bedford Dwellings public-housing complex after a bench warrant for a parole violation went out in her name. Deputies took her into custody without incident and brought her to the Allegheny County Jail, according to officials.
The bench warrant was issued on April 7 after authorities said Ferguson violated parole tied to a March 2020 guilty plea for endangering the welfare of a child. She was sentenced at the time to 16 to 32 months in jail, followed by five years of probation, according to Newport Dispatch. That earlier case involved a two-month-old baby who suffered multiple injuries.
Warrant Linked To Northview Heights Violence
On top of the parole issues, City of Pittsburgh detectives already had an active arrest warrant for Ferguson, accusing her of involvement in a December shooting and stabbing in the Northview Heights neighborhood, authorities said. Local coverage noted that the sheriff’s office had been looking for her since the April bench warrant was issued, according to WPXI.
How Detectives Closed In
Investigators with the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office developed information that Ferguson was staying in an apartment at the Bedford Dwellings complex and moved in on that tip. After announcing their presence at the unit, detectives took her into custody without any reported struggle and transported her to the Allegheny County Jail, as reported by Newport Dispatch.
What Comes Next
Ferguson is being held at the Allegheny County Jail pending processing. Officials have not yet publicly outlined any new charges or said when she will first appear in court. Authorities typically coordinate with city investigators when there are potential additional charges tied to separate incidents, according to WPXI.
Background On The Complexes
Both Bedford Dwellings and nearby Northview Heights are public-housing communities that have seen multiple violent incidents in recent years, highlighting ongoing safety and policing challenges in these areas. Local reporting on past shootings and police activity in Bedford Dwellings has underscored those concerns.
