Two separate shootings in East Cleveland late Saturday left one man dead and another fighting for his life, according to police. Officers scrambled between two scenes only blocks apart as paramedics rushed one victim to the hospital and detectives started piecing together what happened on a tense night on the East Side.
Around 9:42 p.m., officers responded to reports of gunfire at East 129th Street and Eddy Road, where they found a man with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, as reported by News 5 Cleveland. Moments later, officers were sent to Holyoke Avenue and East 133rd Street, where they discovered a second victim in a red Jeep Wrangler with a gunshot wound to the head. That victim was pronounced dead at the scene, the station reported.
State Crime Unit Called To Aid Investigation
State investigators routinely assist local departments in fatal shooting cases. The Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation typically takes on crime scene processing and follow-up work in those situations, according to the Ohio Attorney General's Office. For non-emergency tips or information, East Cleveland police list a local contact number of 216-451-1234 on the city website and in official publications, including the City Council newsletter.
Investigators Work To Establish Any Link
It remains unclear whether the two shootings are connected, and no arrests have been announced as of the latest update, East Cleveland police said, according to reporting by News 5 Cleveland. Detectives are canvassing nearby blocks, interviewing residents, and collecting evidence while state and local agents work both scenes. Police again urged anyone with information to call the East Cleveland Police non-emergency line at 216-451-1234.
Another Violent Weekend On The East Side
The shootings capped a rough stretch of overnight violence across Cleveland's East Side. Cleveland EMS reported a separate late-night shooting Friday near East 105th Street and Grantwood Avenue that left a 35-year-old man in critical condition, as detailed in East Side bloodshed. City and hospital staff said emergency responders were dealing with a heavy trauma caseload during the overnight hours. Local authorities have not yet released victim names or suspect descriptions as the investigations continue.
