Valley residents get a short breather today, with clear skies, dry air and a mild start near 72°F at Sky Harbor and humidity around 30%. Thursday stays sunny and breezy, with a high near 92°F and south winds kicking up for a gusty afternoon commute at times. Overnight lows are expected to slip into the mid-60s before temperatures start climbing back into the 90s and beyond this weekend.
Afternoon Winds And Advisories
Southerly winds will strengthen through the afternoon, generally 5 to 15 mph with gusts near 20 mph that could make for a blustery drive and some dusty stretches on exposed roads. Breezes should relax later this evening, then redevelop overnight in some desert corridors. The strongest gusts are still expected west of the Valley, where a Wind Advisory remains in effect in parts of southeastern California. The forecast and discussion are from the National Weather Service.
Heat Relief And Local Resources
The City of Phoenix has opened its Heat Relief Network, which includes a 24/7 respite center at 20 W. Jackson Street along with additional cooling centers and hydration stations that began operations on May 1. If you need transportation to a cooling site, you can call 2-1-1. Full locations and hours are posted by the City of Phoenix Heat Relief.
Weekend Warm-Up And Triple-Digit Return
Temperatures slip a bit on Friday into the upper 80s, then bounce back to the low 90s on Saturday and close to 99°F on Sunday before a sharper warm-up early next week. The Valley is forecast to hit triple digits starting Monday, June 1, with a high around 103°F, and could reach near 105°F on Tuesday, June 2. If you have outdoor plans, aim for morning hours and do not forget to bring water.
There are no active watches or warnings for the Phoenix metro today, but conditions can change quickly. Check for updates before you head out and take basic heat-safety precautions if you will be working or spending extended time outside over the weekend.
