A woman was stabbed and carjacked on the 2100 block of Savannah Terrace SE on April 4, in an attack that unfolded so fast her vehicle was gone almost as quickly as the suspects appeared. She was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover, police said. The car was later found abandoned after crashing into a parked vehicle in the 300 block of 18th Street SE, according to AlertDC.
The Metropolitan Police Department has now released surveillance video that appears to show two males dressed in black forcing their way into the victim’s vehicle and taking off with it, according to WJLA. One is seen in a hoodie, the other with a backpack, and both move with the kind of urgency that suggests they knew they had only seconds to pull this off. Investigators say the clip looks like it was captured from a Metro bus and are hoping it will jog someone’s memory. A reward of up to $10,000 is on the table for information that leads to an arrest, according to WJLA.
An AlertDC notification from the city’s Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency confirms MPD units were dispatched to the 2100 block of Savannah Terrace SE on April 4 and notes that the vehicle was recovered, listing the incident under event number I20260139693. The alert also reminds residents not to intervene if they spot the suspects and instead to contact police, according to AlertDC.
What the surveillance clip shows
In the released footage, two men approach the parked car, open the doors and climb in with practiced speed, then drive off in what looks like a matter of seconds, according to WJLA. One suspect moves with a quick, crouched gait while the other keeps a backpack slung over a shoulder. Detectives say sharing the clip could help identify the pair and locate the vehicle, according to WJLA.
Savannah Terrace's recent history
The same block has seen deadly violence before. In November, MPD investigated a fatal shooting on the 2100 block of Savannah Terrace SE that left one man dead, underscoring why this stretch keeps drawing police attention, according to MPD. Community leaders and residents have repeatedly pushed for more patrols and stronger surveillance along the corridor after a series of serious incidents.
