Knoxville police say a late-night patrol in the Five Points neighborhood turned into a foot chase Monday, ending with the arrest of a 15-year-old boy who was allegedly carrying an AR-style pistol.

According to WVLT, officers spotted the teen around 10:45 p.m. and tried to stop him. Instead, he ran into an apartment on Taylor Homes Road, then came back out and was detained by officers. The Knoxville Police Department told the station the boy is not being publicly identified because of his age and that he is facing charges of unlawful possession of a weapon and evading arrest.

Weapon And Evidence Recovered

Police later obtained a search warrant for the apartment, where officers say they found an “assault rifle” pistol loaded with green-tip ammunition, along with additional rounds and drug paraphernalia, WVLT reported. The station quoted the department’s summary, which also described the weapon as an “assault rifle” pistol.

Five Points Neighborhood Context

The arrest comes in a month that has already seen other police activity in the area. On May 6, the Knoxville Police Department investigated an early-morning shooting in the 400 block of Taylor Homes Road that left a man wounded, according to a statement from the Knoxville Police Department. That earlier case underscored the department’s heightened presence in the Five Points neighborhood.

Legal Note

The teen is facing juvenile charges of unlawful possession of a weapon and evading arrest. As is standard in juvenile cases, authorities are withholding his identity while the matter moves through the court system.

The case remains under investigation. Hoodline will update this story if the Knoxville Police Department or prosecutors release additional information.
