An overnight blaze at a mobile home in Largo's Westgate Mobile Home Park left two people dead and a third injured early Monday, according to Largo Fire Rescue, after crews rolled up to find the single‑wide home already swallowed in flames.
According to WTSP, 9-1-1 calls started coming in just after 2:25 a.m. Firefighters discovered two victims dead inside the residence and pulled a third person from the burning structure. That survivor was taken to Tampa General Hospital, while crews stayed on scene to keep searching the home and secure the area.
Investigation Underway
Largo Police and the Florida State Fire Marshal are handling the origin-and-cause investigation. Officials have not released the names of the victims or an update on the condition of the injured survivor as the death investigation continues.
Why Mobile Home Blazes Can Turn Fatal
Federal fire data shows that manufactured and older mobile homes can burn faster than site-built houses because of compact floorplans and combustible materials, which can leave residents with very little time to get out. The U.S. Fire Administration also reports that modern HUD‑code manufactured homes are generally safer than older models and stresses the importance of working smoke alarms and a practiced escape plan in every household.
