Washington Parish deputies are asking for the public's help tracking down the driver of a pickup truck that witnesses say dragged a dog along a rural road Thursday afternoon. The animal was reportedly seen being pulled behind a truck around 3:40 p.m. on 7 Mile Road as the vehicle headed north toward Highway 436 in Washington Parish. Deputies have not released any information about the dog's condition and say no suspect has been identified.
What deputies said
According to WWL-TV, investigators described the vehicle as a silver Toyota Tacoma and said the truck did not have a visible license plate. The Washington Parish Sheriff's Office is urging anyone who might have seen the truck or captured it on video to come forward so investigators can piece together what happened.
How to contact deputies
Anyone with information can call 985-839-3434, according to the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office. For emergencies, residents are asked to call 911. For non-emergency tips or video that might help the case, deputies are asking callers to use the sheriff's main line so investigators can follow up.
Tip options
Per WWL-TV, callers using the sheriff's line can press 0 to leave a tip or press 1 to leave an anonymous tip when prompted. Deputies are asking residents to check any dashcam or doorbell footage and to share video that shows the truck or its occupants near 7 Mile Road and Highway 436 around the time of the incident.
Legal context and local pattern
Louisiana law treats cruelty to animals as a crime that can be charged as simple or aggravated cruelty, with potential penalties that can include fines, forfeiture of animals and, in more serious cases, imprisonment, according to the Animal Legal & Historical Center. Hoodline covered a similar case in October 2024, when a Luling woman was arrested on aggravated animal cruelty charges after witnesses said she dragged a dog behind her car.
The sheriff's office has not released the identity of any suspects and says the investigation remains active. Deputies thanked residents for their help so far and said all tips will be reviewed as detectives continue their work on the case.
