Ocean Hudson, the man captured on video stabbing an Edmond police officer during a traffic stop, pleaded guilty Wednesday to multiple felony charges and now awaits a summer sentencing date. The plea marks the latest turn in a case that rattled Edmond after bodycam footage of the May 1, 2025 ambush spread across town. Officer Caleb Hodam, who suffered serious injuries, has been recovering following surgery.
The plea and charges
In court, Hudson admitted to several felony counts, including assault and battery upon a police officer, aggravated assault and battery upon a police officer, assault and battery with a deadly weapon, placing bodily fluids on a government employee and obstructing an officer. Prosecutors say the case also includes additional child‑exploitation‑related counts. Sentencing is set for July 22, 2026, according to KOCO.
The ambush and bodycam footage
Bodycam and dash camera footage released by the Edmond Police Department show the attack on May 1, 2025, near 15th Street and the Broadway Extension. Hudson, who was not involved in the original traffic stop, walked up behind Officer Hodam, sprayed him with pepper spray, then pulled a large knife from his waistband and began stabbing him. A passerby jumped in and wrestled the knife away, and officers then used a Taser to take Hudson into custody. The department released the footage to highlight what it described as an unprovoked ambush, as reported by News On 6.
Officer recovery and related charges
Officer Hodam was transported to OU Health/OU Medical Center for surgery and was released from the hospital a few days later. The department has said he continues to recover at home. Hudson had been scheduled for a status conference that same day in Canadian County on separate charges accusing him of lewd or indecent acts with a child, and prosecutors later added an aggravated possession of obscene materials involving a minor count. The Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office announced that the Attorney General’s Office would take over prosecution of the case, according to News 9.
What’s next in court
Hudson is scheduled to return to court for sentencing on July 22, 2026, when a judge will decide his punishment and consider any recommendations from prosecutors. By entering a guilty plea, he avoids a trial, but the details of the attack will still be laid out in the record for the judge to weigh. Local reporting has outlined the plea and sentencing schedule, and upcoming court filings will set the next public milestones in the case, as reported by KOCO.
