A Wednesday night inferno ripped through a home on the 6300 block of Highland Avenue in Elmwood Place, sending two people to Cincinnati hospitals and leaving two pets dead, according to officials. Firefighters arrived to find heavy flames and occupants trapped inside, quickly calling for mutual aid as crews battled to get the blaze under control.

According to FOX19, Cincinnati Fire Department Lt. Holmes said two people were rescued from the burning home and taken to UC Medical Center and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital for treatment. Lt. Holmes also told FOX19 that two pets died in the fire and that the cause remains under investigation.

Neighbors Pulled Occupants To Safety

Neighbors told WLWT they saw the flames and rushed over with a ladder, using it to pull a woman and a child out of the house before firefighters arrived. WLWT reports the call came in around 6 p.m. and that the front porch was heavily damaged in the blaze. Investigators say the extent of the victims’ injuries is not yet known. Multiple area departments, including the Cincinnati Fire Department, assisted in knocking down the fire.

Investigation And Aftermath

FOX19 notes there is currently no estimate of the damage as investigators continue to work the scene to determine what sparked the blaze. Officials have not released additional information about the patients’ conditions or whether residents will be displaced while recovery and repairs are arranged.
