The owners say the storefront’s final day will be next Sunday, as co-owner Nicole Leiva heads to Southern California to start a new pastry job.
Owners Cite New Opportunities
According to The Baltimore Banner, the Leiva sisters broke the news in an Instagram post, thanking Baltimore for six years of support. The Banner reports that Nicole is moving west to work as a pastry chef at Yaamava’ Resort & Casino in Southern California, and that trying to lead the business from a distance made it tough to keep the shop going. The sisters also told fans that Dulceology will continue shipping alfajores nationwide, even after the Federal Hill doors close.
From Etsy Hustle To Federal Hill Storefront
The bakery’s story started online, long before the line formed outside the front door. The sisters were first selling alfajores on Etsy, then used that momentum to open their Federal Hill shop in 2020, according to GW Today. Profiles of the founders trace Dulceology back to family recipes and the Leivas’ immigration from El Salvador, noting that online orders helped build a steady customer base before they committed to a physical space. Over time, the menu grew beyond the signature cookies to include gluten-free and vegan options along with custom celebration cakes.

The bakery still sells boxed alfajores and other gift items online, with shipping available across the United States, according to Dulceology. The owners have also urged regulars to keep using the online shop while the storefront winds down and to follow their social channels for final updates.
