Police say a south St. Louis gas station turned into the scene of a brutal domestic attack when a man pulled a handgun on his girlfriend, stole her car and then ran her over with it. The confrontation unfolded on May 10 on the 1100 block of South Kingshighway Boulevard in the Kings Oak neighborhood, according to investigators. The suspect, identified in police records as 46-year-old Allen S. Owens of Hillsdale, was arrested two days later and is being held without bond.
According to FOX 2, surveillance cameras at the service station at South Kingshighway and Manchester recorded the encounter as other customers watched. Police allege Owens brandished a handgun with an extended magazine while inside a vehicle with the woman, then took off in her silver Ford EcoSport and drove over her torso as bystanders looked on. Officers later arrested Owens and recovered evidence from the scene, the outlet reports.
Charges And Court Dates
Per St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office records, Owens is charged with second-degree robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon, leaving the scene of an accident - physical injury, and fourth-degree domestic assault. He remains jailed without bond while prosecutors continue reviewing the case.
Court Schedule And Next Steps
Police took Owens into custody on May 12, and prosecutors have set a detention hearing for May 21 followed by a preliminary hearing on June 17, according to FOX 2. If a judge finds probable cause at the preliminary hearing, the case can move toward indictment. Until then, Owens will remain in custody.
What Investigators Say
Investigators reference a probable cause statement that lays out witness accounts and what appears on the surveillance footage. Police say the case will be turned over to prosecutors along with any relevant body-camera or store-camera video. Records included in the probable cause materials also note that Owens has a lengthy criminal history, and prosecutors will decide how that background factors into charging or bail decisions as the case moves forward.
