Jerome Road in South Fulton turned into a wall of flashing blue lights early Tuesday morning after neighbors reported hearing gunfire, drawing a heavy police response that stretched into daybreak. Residents counted at least a dozen patrol cars lining the block, with officers blocking parts of the street while detectives worked the scene. As of now, police have not said whether anyone was shot or injured.
According to WSB-TV Channel 2, officers were dispatched on a shots-fired call, and a witness told Channel 2 Action News This Morning that a group gathered at a nearby home heard the gunfire. The station reported that its crews were live at the scene as authorities went door to door gathering information, and that investigators had not confirmed any victims.
Neighbors recount early-morning alarm
Residents said the surge of police activity brought back anxiety after other violent incidents in South Fulton this spring. In March, a double homicide that left two teenagers dead was reported by Fox 5 Atlanta, and neighbors on Jerome Road said they are increasingly frustrated about how little they hear from officials when shots are reported. Several people on the block told reporters they chose to stay inside while detectives processed the scene outside.
Police details still limited
So far, South Fulton police have released only limited information about Tuesday morning's response and, as WSB-TV noted, have not said whether anyone was hurt. Traffic in the area was disrupted during the investigation, with officers diverting vehicles while investigators collected evidence and spoke with witnesses along Jerome Road.
How to stay informed

Local TV crews stayed on scene through the morning, and police have said they plan to release additional details as the investigation continues. This report will be updated when officials share more information.
