Officers arrived at about 5:30 p.m. and found victims suffering from gunshot wounds. City crews and medics blocked park entrances while investigators processed the area.
What police say
Major Steve Runge, interim Berkeley police chief, told reporters that the 911 call first came in as a water rescue before officers discovered there had been a shooting, according to FOX 2. The station reports that multiple people were struck and taken to area hospitals, and that authorities have not released the victims’ names or the severity of their injuries. Investigators canvassed the park and interviewed witnesses as they searched for suspects.

Ramona-Mathison Lake Park sits just north of Interstate 70 and east of North Hanley Road in Berkeley, at 8940 Ramona Lake Drive, according to the City of Berkeley. City staff temporarily closed portions of the grounds while police worked the scene.

Police said they were collecting evidence and speaking with witnesses at the park as detectives led the probe with help from regional partners.
