As of 5:35 a.m. PDT Monday, May 18, 2026, skies over Las Vegas are clear, temperatures are hovering near 57°F, and the morning wind machine is finally starting to dial back. Highs are on track to land around 79°F this afternoon, with lingering northerly breezes still capable of kicking up noticeable gusts before conditions settle down tonight.
Morning Gusts, Midmorning Warnings
Most of the wind advisories that rattled valley neighborhoods early Monday have wrapped up, but the Colorado River Valley and nearby corridors are not quite done yet. Those spots may still see gusts of 30 to 40 mph, and a High Wind Warning remains in effect through midmorning. According to the National Weather Service Las Vegas, northerly winds should ease this afternoon, but not before they whip up choppy 2 to 4 foot waves on area lakes. Boaters and drivers of high profile vehicles should expect a bit of a wrestling match during the morning commute.
Local Impacts And Tips
Before heading out, it is a good idea to secure patio furniture, shade structures and any lightweight yard gear that might try to go airborne, and to give extra room to large trucks and RVs on exposed stretches of I-15 and U.S.-95. Gusty crosswinds are also possible at Harry Reid and other local airports, which could make for some bumpy approaches and departures. Warming Trend Through The Week
Today’s cooler readings, roughly 10 to 15 degrees below what is typical for mid May, will be short lived. Temperatures bounce back quickly, with forecast highs climbing to about 84°F on Tuesday, near 89°F on Wednesday and into the mid 90s by Thursday. Upper 90s are likely by Friday and into the weekend, according to the NWS Las Vegas forecast. Outdoor work will be easier to handle in the mornings, and it will be worth keeping a close eye on updated forecasts later in the week as the heat builds.
