A normally quiet stretch of Stranahan Street in Pittsburgh’s Homewood neighborhood turned into an active crime scene Tuesday night after reports of multiple shots brought police racing to the 7300 block. Officers found a woman with a gunshot wound to the arm and got her to a hospital, where she was listed in stable condition. Investigators with the Mobile Crime Unit stayed on the block into the night, documenting bullet damage to the woman’s home and vehicle and counting more than 40 spent shell casings scattered around the scene.
Pittsburgh Public Safety officials told WTAE that officers were dispatched around 8:35 p.m. The Mobile Crime Unit collected the shell casings while detectives walked the block, searching for additional evidence. According to the station, no arrests had been made, and the case remained under investigation.
Scene and Evidence
Evidence markers lined the pavement as officers photographed each casing and documented fresh damage along Stranahan Street, while neighbors watched from nearby porches. The sheer number of recovered rounds mirrors other high-volume shootings in the city this spring, where local coverage has shown investigators leaning on ShotSpotter alerts and the Mobile Crime Unit to process sprawling scenes, as a recent report on how a Larimer Night Turns Chaotic detailed.
Police Appeal and Next Steps
Authorities have not released any suspect description, and detectives say they are continuing to run down leads, according to WTAE. Investigators are asking anyone who was in the area, including residents who may have cellphone video, to share what they have with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police as they work to piece together what led up to the burst of gunfire.
