Police are searching for a man who, they say, walked up to a 13-year-old boy riding an electric bike on a Bay Ridge sidewalk and shoved him off, leaving the teen with cuts to his face. The assault happened in front of 9524 Fort Hamilton Parkway at about 4:30 p.m. on April 20, and EMS took the boy to Maimonides Medical Center. According to police, he suffered lacerations to his face and lip and is expected to recover. After the shove, investigators say the suspect ran north on Fort Hamilton Parkway and into the 95th Street/4th Avenue subway station.
What police say
Authorities say the man walked up to the rider on the sidewalk, pushed him to the ground, then fled. Detectives describe the suspect as wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, blue pants and carrying a black backpack, according to News 12. The report adds that EMS took the boy to Maimonides Medical Center with lacerations to his face and lip and that he is expected to recover. Detectives are asking anyone who recognizes the clothing description or who captured footage to contact investigators.
Neighborhood pattern
The Bay Ridge incident comes after a series of scooter and e-bike related robberies across southern Brooklyn in recent months in which teens were targeted and, in some cases, pushed from their bikes during thefts, as reported by a scooter robbery crew targeting Brooklyn kids. That coverage notes police asked residents to preserve door-cam and phone video with timestamps to help detectives identify suspects.
How to help
This remains an active NYPD investigation, and anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Stoppers tip line at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or submit an anonymous tip online, per the NYPD's Crime Stoppers page. If a crime is in progress, call 911 immediately. Police have urged witnesses to preserve any video rather than try to confront suspects.
