A late-night fire in west Charlotte has neighbors on edge after investigators ruled a blaze near West Mecklenburg High School was intentionally set on Tuesday.

Charlotte Fire Department crews were dispatched around 11:59 p.m. to the 7500 block of Tuckaseegee Road, near several baseball fields and the high school. Firefighters moved fast and had the flames under control in about 23 minutes. No injuries were reported, and officials estimated roughly $2,000 in property damage, according to The Charlotte Observer. No charges had been announced as of the latest update.

String of nearby arsons raises alarm

The suspicious blaze fits into a troubling pattern of recent intentionally set fires in the same part of the city.

Coverage in Hoodline’s Booted patron accused report details court filings surrounding a two-alarm fire at the Garden Bar & Lounge on Tuckaseegee Road, where investigators say Molotov cocktails were used and a suspect was ultimately arrested.

Not far away, WCCB reported that a massive apartment fire in northwest Charlotte in May was also ruled intentionally set by police.

What investigators say and how to help

Fire officials have now confirmed that Tuesday night’s blaze near West Meck was deliberately set, and the investigation remains active.

Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact Charlotte Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or submit a tip through the P3 Tips app, per the City of Charlotte.
