A late-night shooting just off Union Station sent a man to the hospital Wednesday after he was hit multiple times in the torso, authorities said. The victim told officers he believed someone had been following him before the attack. The Los Angeles Police Department said the investigation is ongoing and has not released a suspect description or an updated condition for the victim.
Police response and timeline
LAPD officers were called about 11:50 p.m. Wednesday to the 800 block of North Alameda Street, south of East Cesar Chavez Avenue, where they found the wounded man with multiple gunshot wounds to his torso, an LAPD officer told City News Service, as reported by MyNewsLA. Los Angeles Fire Department personnel took him to a hospital, where his condition was initially described as unknown. Detectives are working the case and have not released details about a possible suspect.
Where this fits in downtown
The shooting adds to a handful of isolated incidents around downtown this spring, a reminder that violence can still flare across the commercial core even on otherwise quiet nights. In April, a separate mid-day shooting left one person injured and led to an arrest, as reported in midday gunfire rocks downtown.
How to help investigators
Police are asking anyone who saw the shooting or captured video to contact Central Area detectives. Non-emergency tips can be submitted by calling 1-877-ASK-LAPD, or by reaching the detective desk at the Central Community Police Station. Contact information for the station is listed on the LAPD Central page.
