A late-night stabbing in Fort Worth’s Central Division left one man dead yesterday, and another in police custody after he reportedly walked up to an officer and said he believed he was involved.

Officers were called to an assault in the 2400 block of Lillian Street shortly after 10:30 p.m. When they arrived, they found an adult male with at least one stab wound. Fort Worth police and Fort Worth Fire Department personnel tried life-saving measures, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene, according to FOX 4.

The suspect was gone by the time officers got there. About an hour later, around 11:50 p.m., a man approached an officer in the 2500 block of Northeast 28th Street and said he believed he had stabbed someone. He was detained and taken back to the original scene while detectives worked to sort out what happened, as reported by CBS News Texas. Police have not released his name or announced formal charges.

Investigation and next steps

Homicide detectives are leading the investigation and canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses, surveillance video, and other evidence. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will publicly release the victim’s identity and the official cause and manner of death after notifying family members, Fort Worth police said in a statement to FOX 4.

How to help investigators

Investigators believe the stabbing was an isolated incident and say there is no ongoing threat to the wider community. Even so, they are urging anyone who saw or recorded anything to come forward.
