A late-night wreck in Dallas' Pleasant Grove neighborhood left two people dead and a third fighting for life after a car slammed off the road and into a tree last night, authorities said.

The single-vehicle crash happened in the 2200 block of North Jim Miller Road, where the car left the roadway and struck a tree, trapping all three occupants inside, officials said. Emergency crews pulled the victims from the mangled vehicle and pronounced two of them dead at the scene. The third person was rushed to a hospital in critical condition.

Dallas Fire-Rescue and Dallas police responded at about 9 p.m. Crews used rescue tools to cut into the wreck and free the trapped occupants, according to The Dallas Morning News. Investigators believe only one vehicle was involved, and they have not yet determined what caused the crash. Officials have not released the names of those killed or injured.

What crews reported at the scene

DFR spokesperson Jason Evans told The Dallas Morning News that firefighters arrived to find the vehicle up against a tree with all three occupants still trapped inside. At that point, he said, “their condition remained unknown.” Police later described one of the occupants as critically injured.

Pleasant Grove has seen recent deadly collisions

This latest wreck adds to a grim stretch for Pleasant Grove. Earlier this spring, a separate crash in early April left two people dead and led to intoxication manslaughter charges, as reported by FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth. That earlier collision happened near Military Parkway and North Jim Miller Road, highlighting ongoing safety concerns along heavily traveled routes in southeast Dallas.

Investigation ongoing

Dallas police said the investigation into Monday night's crash remains open, and no additional details were made available overnight. The department has not identified the victims, and the cause of the collision is still under review.
