Dimassi's Mediterranean Buffet has quietly gone dark in Northwest Austin, with its familiar buffet line on Research Boulevard sitting empty since late March. Regulars who once packed the dining room at 12636 Research Blvd showed up to find bare tables, a missing storefront sign and, soon after, no trace of the spot on delivery or pickup apps.
Owner Sam Khader confirmed to Community Impact that the Research Boulevard location closed in late March, citing an expired lease and what he described as a "dated" building. Khader told the outlet the brand "plans to return to the Austin area soon." The same report highlighted some of the dishes that kept regulars coming back, including chicken pasta, mansaf with lamb and makloube.
Where Dimassi's Still Operates
According to Dimassi's website, the chain still lists a Round Rock location and a South Austin outpost on Stassney, along with multiple restaurants across Texas and California. The locations page also plays up Dimassi's catering business and menu lineup across its restaurants, signaling a reshuffle of its Austin footprint rather than a full retreat.
Delivery Listings And Directory Pages Show Closure
An Uber Eats listing shows the Research Boulevard pickup and delivery option marked "closed" on March 25, 2026. Online directories followed suit, with sites like TripAdvisor flagging the Research Blvd address as closed. That quiet disappearance from delivery platforms meant regular pickup and delivery orders dried up weeks before the company publicly acknowledged the shutdown.
What’s Next For The Space And Diners
Khader told Community Impact that Dimassi's hopes to return to the Austin area soon, though there is no public timetable or new address yet. In the meantime, fans of the all-you-can-eat spread have been venting on review sites, lamenting the loss of their go-to buffet and steering fellow diners toward the chain's remaining locations.
For now, Austin-area customers who counted on the Research Boulevard line of trays and steam tables will have to head to Round Rock or South Austin for their Dimassi's fix, or tap the catering arm still listed on the chain's site. We will be watching for any word on a fresh Austin opening or a new tenant stepping into the now-empty Research Boulevard space.
