What started as a late-night meetup in an Arlington park turned into a violent confrontation on Wednesday, with two teenage boys ambushed by a group of masked men, multiple people stabbed, and several suspects now facing felony charges. Arlington police said officers were called to Brantley Hinshaw Park around 11:10 p.m., and at least one person was taken to Medical City Arlington with a stab wound.

What happened

The two teens told officers they had gone to the park to meet a girl they had been chatting with on an app. While they waited, a group in ski masks walked up on them, the boys told police. The teens said some in the group were armed, and one of the boys pulled a pocketknife in what he described as self-defense, stabbing two of the attackers before the group scattered into several vehicles and took off.

The teen boys, who were treated as victims in the incident, are not currently facing criminal charges, according to NBC DFW.

Arrests and bookings

Arlington police said they later tracked down several people they believe were involved in the fight and took them into custody. Those arrested include 17-year-old Giovanni Holloway, 17-year-old Johnathan Antoine, 19-year-old Maverick Holloway and 17-year-old Jeremiah Martinez.

According to investigators, each of the four was booked on one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Booking records published by the Arlington Police Department list some of the suspects on the city jail roster and show at least one aggravated assault booking and bail set, according to the Arlington Police Department.

Police investigation

Officers said a 24-year-old man who identified himself as "Mister Walker" also showed up at the hospital with a stab wound connected to the park incident. Detectives said his account of what happened shifted during interviews.

After searching the car Walker arrived in, officers reported finding multiple firearms and a ski mask. Police said Walker matched the description of an outstanding suspect in the park attack and will be charged once he is released from the hospital, according to NBC DFW.

Legal implications

The arrested individuals are facing counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a felony under Texas law. Texas law defines aggravated assault to include causing serious bodily injury or using or exhibiting a deadly weapon while committing an assault, according to Justia.

Meetups and online safety

Investigators said the teens were lured to the park after arranging to meet someone they had been talking to on an app, a setup that highlights the risks young people face when moving online conversations into the real world.

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children has reported increasing numbers of online enticement cases and operates a CyberTipline, along with providing resources for parents and teens on how to handle digital contact that feels off or unsafe, according to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.

Arlington police said the investigation is still active and asked anyone who has information or video from the night of the attack to contact the department. Detectives said they are continuing to piece together the chain of events that led from an app chat to a stabbing scene in a neighborhood park.
