A lunchtime walk on the Atlanta BeltLine turned into a crime scene Thursday when a person was stabbed near Ansley Golf Club, shutting down a busy stretch of the popular trail as police rushed in and taped off the area.
Crime-scene tape blocked off roughly 60 yards of the path and a sizable police presence was visible at the scene. Authorities have not released the victim’s condition or said whether anyone has been arrested.
Police closed a stretch of the BeltLine behind Flagler Avenue, just south of I‑85, and Montgomery Ferry Drive was shut at Flagler Avenue while officers worked the scene, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The closure was in place by about 1 p.m., and witnesses told reporters they saw multiple officers searching nearby embankments. A BeltLine spokesperson directed questions to Atlanta police as investigators processed the area.
City police confirmed a person was stabbed on the BeltLine, the department told local station Atlanta News First, which posted a brief bulletin at 1:50 p.m. Thursday. The station’s report did not include further details about the victim’s condition.
Police Search The Scene
Officers were seen canvassing the area on foot and deploying a drone to scan the tree line above the trail, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Atlanta police declined to answer questions for reporters at the scene, and traffic near the intersection remained disrupted while investigators worked. BeltLine officials said they were monitoring the situation and referred media inquiries to APD.
Neighbors Recall A Deadly Attack Nearby
The same stretch of trail near Montgomery Ferry and Flagler Avenue has seen deadly violence before. In July 2024, a fatal stabbing near Montgomery Ferry Road led to the arrest of an escaped inmate, neighbors told FOX 5 Atlanta. That case sparked calls from residents for more patrols in the Ansley Park and Piedmont Heights area, and some neighbors at Thursday’s scene voiced renewed concern as officers moved through the corridor.
Officials have not released information about suspects or formal charges. Police and BeltLine staff say they will provide updates through official channels as the investigation unfolds, Atlanta News First reported.
