Homicide detectives are digging for answers after firefighters stumbled on a man dead overnight in northwest Houston under circumstances officials are calling suspicious. Emergency crews were sent to the intersection of Chrystelle Lane and Blanton Boulevard, where something they found at the scene led them to call in police. Investigators have not yet released the victim’s name, age or how he may have died, and the case is still in its early stages as authorities carefully work the scene.
Scene and initial response
Firefighters who first arrived on the call saw enough to label the situation suspicious and notified Houston police, triggering a homicide response. Detectives then spent several hours overnight combing through the area, collecting evidence and documenting every detail, according to KPRC Click2Houston. Crime-scene tape sealed off the property as investigators swept the scene with flashlights into the early morning hours.
Medical examiner and next steps
The Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to perform an autopsy to determine both the cause and manner of death. Those findings can take anywhere from several days to weeks, depending on toxicology and other testing, in line with guidance from the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office. While the forensic results are pending, detectives plan to keep chasing leads and interviewing potential witnesses to piece together what happened.
How to help investigators
Anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area is urged to call the Houston Police Department’s Homicide Division at 713-308-3600, or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers of Houston at 713-222-TIPS, according to the Houston Police Department. Officials are also asking anyone with photos or video from the area overnight to hold onto that material and share it with investigators. Police say more details will be released as they become available.
