A suspicious package dropped at the back door of the Hamilton County Juvenile Court building pulled bomb technicians and a wall of law enforcement into downtown Cincinnati on Friday morning, briefly shutting down several streets around 800 Broadway. Officers blocked Reedy Street and Eggleston Avenue while crews checked out the item, and traffic reopened once authorities cleared the scene shortly after 9 a.m.
Bomb squad called, no threat found
Bomb technicians with Cincinnati police and the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office arrived at 800 Broadway around 8 a.m., a spokeswoman for the Cincinnati Fire Department said, according to FOX19. The sheriff’s office later determined the package was not a threat and cleared the scene shortly after 9 a.m., the station reported.
Why the Broadway building matters
The building at 800 Broadway houses the Hamilton County Juvenile Court, the county probation department and other offices, which helps explain why a security call at a rear entrance can quickly spill into traffic disruption on nearby streets, according to the Hamilton County Clerk of Courts. With court visitors and county staff moving in and out all day, even a short interruption can ripple through downtown circulation and parking.
Downtown impact and recent context
Friday’s shutdown was brief but lands in the middle of heightened attention to courthouse security after a March federal indictment tied to a mail-bomb threat at a downtown courthouse. Officials reported no injuries in Friday’s incident and asked people to steer clear of the immediate area while crews worked, per FOX19.
