A former North Fair Oaks soccer coach has admitted in court to having sexual relationships with students, a case that has rattled a now-shuttered charter school community and could land him in state prison.
Palo Alto resident Anthony Giovanny GutierrezMolina, 31, pleaded no contest this week to multiple sex-crime counts involving minors, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office. Under the plea, he now faces potential prison time and is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 8. He was arrested in March and is currently out on $500,000 bail. Prosecutors say some of the illegal conduct took place both at his home and on school grounds.
According to Local News Matters, GutierrezMolina pleaded no contest to three counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and two counts of felony oral copulation with a minor. The outlet reports he worked at the now-closed Summit Everest High School in North Fair Oaks as a soccer coach and community program manager.
Detectives opened the investigation in January 2026 after an alleged victim came forward, and GutierrezMolina was arrested on March 5, SFGATE reports. That reporting notes he was initially charged with 12 counts of statutory rape and six counts of oral copulation with a person under 18. Prosecutors told reporters he "became very friendly" with a 16-year-old student and that some encounters allegedly happened on school property.
Legal outlook
Under the no-contest plea, GutierrezMolina faces up to two years and eight months in state prison and is set for sentencing on Sept. 8, according to coverage by the SM Daily Journal. The DA’s office says he was first held on $1 million bail and is now free on $500,000 bail while the case moves toward sentencing.
School and community context
Summit Everest High School closed in 2025, but investigators say the community engagement program the coach ran there is central to the case timeline. Prosecutors allege the first illegal relationship began in March 2023 and continued through November 2024, and that a second girl had sex with him three times at his home, according to reporting from SFGATE and Local News Matters. Authorities say the first relationship ended after GutierrezMolina’s wife told him she was pregnant.
What happens next
The case is scheduled to return to San Mateo County Superior Court on Sept. 8 for sentencing, where a judge will weigh the plea agreement, arguments from attorneys, and any victim impact statements. In the meantime, the DA’s office, as described in local reporting, continues to offer victim services and has declined to provide further comment while the court process is still underway.
