McCaysville Police Captain Brantley Worley, the North Georgia officer shot in the face while responding to a call on Sept. 12, 2025, is now out of the hospital and recovering at home, according to his department. His injuries were severe, but those close to him say he is making steady, encouraging progress as he continues follow-up care.
According to WSB-TV, Worley was airlifted to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga after the shooting and treated for a brain bleed, a broken neck, and other injuries before undergoing reconstructive surgery on his nose. Doctors initially kept him in the ICU, then moved him out as his condition stabilized, and law-enforcement agencies organized a procession to bring him home.
Recovery and community support
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that McCaysville Chief Michael Earley called Worley’s recovery “truly nothing short of a miracle” and thanked medical teams and the public for their outpouring of support. Gov. Brian Kemp and local officials also issued statements urging the community to keep Worley and his family in their thoughts as he continues outpatient care.
Suspect arrested and charged
Authorities say 26-year-old Timothy Craig Ramsey was arrested after a roughly 19-hour manhunt and taken into custody in a wooded area outside McCaysville. A judge denied Ramsey bond at an initial hearing, and he faces multiple counts including aggravated assault and attempted murder, FOX5 Atlanta reported.
Investigation and legal status
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is leading the probe and will forward its file to the Appalachian Judicial Circuit district attorney for review, as outlined by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Prosecutors say they will determine formal charges after reviewing the evidence assembled by investigators.
Worley remains at home with his wife and young son while he completes follow-up care, and the department says he will return for additional surgeries as needed. For now, authorities describe the case as active and continue to accept tips from the public, per CBS News Atlanta.
