A quiet stretch of North Philadelphia turned into a crime scene before dawn Friday when gunfire at the intersection of 25th and Berks streets left one man dead and two others fighting for their lives, police said. Officers responding to a flurry of 911 calls just before 2:30 a.m. found three men with gunshot wounds. Two were rushed to Temple University Hospital in critical condition, and a third was later pronounced dead there.
Police Response at 25th and Berks
According to Philadelphia police, officers arriving at 25th and Berks discovered three men who had all been shot. Two of the victims, both 26 years old, were taken to Temple University Hospital, where they remained in critical condition. The third man, believed to be in his 20s, was pronounced dead a short time later at the hospital, according to 6abc.
Nearby House Struck by Bullet, Police Say
"We know one bullet went through the front door of a property, and the projectile ended up in the living room," Chief Inspector Scott Small said, noting that the people inside were extremely lucky not to be hit. Police said they still do not have a description of the shooter or shooters and do not yet know if the person responsible showed up on foot or in a vehicle, per 6abc. Homicide detectives remained on scene processing evidence and reviewing calls and video in hopes of developing leads.
What This Means for Neighbors
The triple shooting is the latest jolt for parts of North Philadelphia, where neighbors say late-night gunfire has become an unsettling refrain in recent weeks. Local reporting has highlighted another late-night North Philly shooting earlier in April, and coverage has pointed to broader citywide trends that officials describe as fragile.
The investigation into Friday morning’s violence is still active. Police have not released the names of the victims and have not identified any suspects. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact homicide detectives as they continue interviews and collect evidence.
