A routine hunt for a parking spot turned into a violent scene in North Philadelphia early Wednesday when a 23-year-old woman was slashed with a machete during an argument over curb space, police said. Officers found the woman shortly after 1 a.m. on the 2800 block of North Hancock Street and rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was listed in stable condition.
According to NBC10 Philadelphia, the confrontation over the parking spot escalated when the suspect pulled out a machete and cut the woman on her left hip. Police described the attacker as a heavyset man dressed in all black who drove off northbound on Hancock Street in a blue Nissan Sentra.
Parking Disputes Can Escalate
Clashes over parking in Philadelphia have a history of spiraling into violence, sometimes involving guns or knives. In January, an argument over a parking space reportedly ended with a man being pistol-whipped and a shot fired, as reported by Patch.
Police Investigating
Officers were called to the 2800 block of North Hancock Street at about 1:02 a.m., and investigators say the case remains very much active with no arrests announced, as reported by NBC10 Philadelphia. Police are asking anyone who was in the area or who has surveillance video to come forward so detectives can track down the suspect.
Knife Attacks Remain a Citywide Concern
The Hancock Street machete attack comes amid a series of knife and stabbing incidents across the city this spring. In one February case, a domestic dispute in the Spring Garden neighborhood led to a double stabbing that sent two people to the hospital, according to reporting by 6abc. Community groups and police continue to urge residents to share tips and video that could help investigators close these cases.
